    CONCERT OF THE CHILDREN´S CHOIR "JURMALA" OF LATVIA IN THESSALONIKI

          A concert with great success, organized by the Association of European Idea´s Friends, was given by the Latvian Children´s choir "Jurmala" under the aegis of the Mayoralty of Thessaloniki and the Vice Mayoralty for Culture and Youth.

          The Children’s choral team, consisting of 52 persons in total, mainly girls between 10 and 16 years old, with a strong presence and appearances in countries such as Czech Republic, Hungary, Spain and Turkey, won in 2003 the first award at the 31st International Choir Contest "Mundi Candant" in Olomouc, Czech Republic, for the interpretation of various music genres like folklore, modern and classic, as well as Greek music (Chatzidakis). The concert that took place at the Theatro Kipou of YMCA, attended not only many small and old friends of music, but also many special representatives of our city, such as the Honorary Consulate of Latvia and President of A.E.I.F. Mr. Agis Kynigopoulos with many of the members of the Association, the General Area Manager of "Hellenic Bank", Mr. Dimitrios Argyropoulos, the President of the Association of the Hellenic and Orthodox Global Fraternity, Mr. Theofilos Ioannidis and others.

8th INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIP IN THESSALONIKI.

          The Honorary Consul of Latvia Mr. Agis Kynigopoulos welcomed the female athletes from Latvia who participated in the 8th International University Wrestling Championship that took place in the Alexandreio Melathron in Thessaloniki. In the photos the Consul congratulates the athletes VANAGA ILZE, BERGMANE BRIGITA & JAPPAROVA IRINA who took the 5th place in their category.

    FORMAL VISIT OF THE AMBASSADOR LIGA BERGMANE IN THESSALONIKI.

          The Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia, accompanied by the Honorary Consul of the country in Macedonia and Thrace, Agis Kynigopoulos, the Head of the diplomatic Delegation of the Embassy Sandra Papina and the Director of the Consulate Natalia Suponitskaya, paid the formal visits to the Authorities of our city.

          The first destination of her visits was the 3rd Army Corps. Where the commanding officer Mr. Eustathios Stratakos welcomed her in his office and discussed with her about issues regarding the enforcement of the relations of the armed forces between the two friendly countries. Afterwards, she visited the Prefect of Thessaloniki Mr. Panagiotis Psomiadis, whom she invited to Latvia the following spring, an invitation that Mr. Psomiadis accepted with gladness. From his side, the Prefect mentioned in a particular way the need for restoration of the Axis 10, which connects Thessaloniki with the Central Europe, while he underlined the main role of Thessaloniki in South-eastern Europe, as well as the particularly important role of the port of the city for the Balkans. Finally, the Prefect presented the Ambassador with a book on the history of Macedonia and Alexander the Great, as well as a silver model of the White Tower. After that, the Ambassador, Liga Bergmane, visited the General Secretary of Central Macedonia, Professor, Giorgios Tsiotras, from whom she received a souvenir, discussed on all matters regarding the region of Central Macedonia in collaboration with Latvia. The Ambassador completed her formal visits at the Ministry of Macedonia and Thrace, where the minister Mr. Margaritis Tzimas welcomed her warmly and discussed with her on the collaboration between Greece and Latvia as well as on innovation and educational issues related to the region of Central Macedonia.

    CEREMONY FOR INDEPENDENCE DAY FESTIVITY OF THE REPUBLIC OF LATVIA.

          The Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia in Athens, Mrs. Liga Bergmane, along with the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Latvia, Mr. Agis Kynigopoulos offered an official ceremony in a notorious restaurant of Thessaloniki. The ceremony was given on the occasion of Independence Day of the Republic of Latvia and it was crowned with absolute success.

          At the ceremony there were present many guests who had the chance and the honour to give their greetings and discuss with the Ambassador, among whom His Holiness Metropolitan bishop of Thessaloniki Anthimos. Also, the Ambassadors of the Russian Federation Mikhail Khatkevitch, of Bulgaria Plamen Ivanov, of the Republic of Cyprus Elpidoforos Oikonomou, of Peru Aristeidis Ioannou, of Liberia Michalis Gkigkilinis, of Slovakia Konstantinos Mavridis, as well as the Members of Parliament Georgios Orfanos, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, the Prefect of Thessaloniki Mr. Panagiotis Psomiadis, and others Vice Mayors, Administrative Authorities of the city and various businessmen graced with their presence.

    HOSPITALITY TO CHILDREN FROM ORPHANAGES OF LATVIA.

          The Honorary Consulate of Latvia in Thessaloniki in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Social Solidarity and the Municipality of Thessaloniki hosted once again this summer students aging between 9 and 14 years from various Latvian institutions in student camps of the Prefecture of Thessaloniki in Stavros, with the aim to offer to the children a rich schedule with educational and athletic activities, entertainment and knowledge. This is an important charitable initiative of the Consulate that gives the opportunity to the children not only to spend the summer on the Greek coasts but also to learn the Greek language and culture better, in collaboration with the Center of Study & Progress of the Greek culture of the Black Sea, in a programme of hospitality full of various and interesting activities. Also, the daily swim in the sea and the visits in amusement grounds, like Magic Park and Waterland, were some of the entertaining activities of the children.

    EXHIBITION OF PRIMERS "A TRIP TO THE LAND OF PRIMERS"

          The Honorary Consulate of Latvia and the Greek-Baltic Chamber of Trade and Industry under the aegis of the Municipality of Thessaloniki and along with the participation of the Association of European Idea’s Friends (A.E.I.F), an exhibition of primers from all around the world entitled "A trip to the land of primers". The exhibition took place in the Municipal Library, at Megaro Krispou with great success.

HOSPITALITY TO CHILDREN FROM ORPHANAGES OF LATVIA

          The Honorary Consulate of Latvia, the Greek-Baltic Chamber of Trade and Industry and the Association of European Idea´s Friends, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Social Solidarity, General Management for Solidarity, the Prefectural Government of Thessaloniki and the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia in Athens, organized the hosting of 80 children and 10 escorts from Latvian orphanages in children’s summer camps "Paidiki Exohi" in Agia Triada, Thessaloniki.

    FESTIVAL "NIGHT OF THE WORLD"

          The Honorary Consulate of Latvia in collaboration with the Greek-Baltic Chamber of Trade and Industry presented a pleasant trip in the tasty corners of the world. The three Baltic countries Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania in collaboration with the Honorary Consulate of Latvia in Thessaloniki, participated in the Festival "Night of the World 2006". The whole exhibition was organized by international students of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki with the contribution of their Greek colleagues, many of the members of the teaching and researching staff, as well as the support of the ethnic and cultural communities of our city, the embassy authorities and representatives of their communities. Also, in this festival more than 30 countries from all over the world were represented, tables with various regional cuisines where more than 2.500 people passed through, the majority of which were young people, university students and academic staff. The Honorary Consulate of Latvia organized with great success the delegation of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, presenting a buffet with rich traditional dishes that amazed the visitors. Many dancing groups from the various countries took part in the Festival.

    PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION OF BALTIC COUNTRIES

          The Honorary Consulate of Latvia and the Greek-Baltic Chamber of Trade and Industry carried out the inauguration of the Photography Exhibition of Greece and the Baltic countries in the Art Hall of at the City Hall of Thessaloniki, under the aegis of the Vice Mayoralty of Culture.

    RECEPTION ON THE OCCASION OF THE CELEBRATION OF THE INDEPENDENCE DAY OF THE REPUBLIC OF LATVIA AND THE OFFICIAL OPENING OF GREEK-BALTIC CHAMBER OF TRADE AND INDUSTRY.

Reception on the occasion of the Celebration of the Independence Day of the Republic of Latvia and the official opening of Greek-Baltic Chamber of Trade and Industry will be given by the Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia in Greece Janis Eichmanis and by the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Latvia for Macedonia - Thrace and President of Greek-Baltic Chamber of Trade and Industry Agis Kynigopoulos. The reception, that will take place on Friday, 18th of November at 21:00 at the "Makedonia Palace" Hotel, will be attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia in Greece Janis Eichmanis, by the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania in Greece Dainius Junevicius and by the Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia in Greece Andres Unga, as well as by city authorities and the representatives of local chambers.

    NEW ECONOMIC HORIZONS BETWEEN LATVIA AND GREECE

          The nomination of Thessaloniki for the organization of the International Fair EXPO 2008 and the 69th International Fair of Helexpo brings the city at the focal point of the economic events of Greece. For these two important events the Greek part asked the diplomatic corps in Athens and Thessaloniki for encouragement and support. Among diplomatic representatives of many countries who visited the fair there was the Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia Mr. Janis Eichmanis and the Honorary Consul of Latvia Mr. Agis Kynigopoulos. Both declared their readiness to participate actively in the progress for the strengthening of both the economic and social relations of the two countries with the hope of a future cooperation and participation of Latvia in the Fair.
